HI All, Have any of you been stung by bees, wasps, jellyfish, hornetts, etc? I've been stung by a bee twice, both times on my hands. The first time, I was seven. A bee flew into my hand, I squeezed it, not knowing what it was and threw it down. It flew back up, stung me, then fell again, dead. My hand swelled up a lot and they pried the stinger out with tweezers (we were at a summer party thing). Then the next day it was pretty much okay. The other time i was swimming. I was just swimming along, when my hand came in contact with a prickly thing, and a sharp pain sank into my palm. It didn't really hurt. I showed my hand to my sightie friend who was with me, and sure enough, a bee sting. My mom said that, as long as it didn't hurt, I should just keep swimming and using that hand, and the stinger would probably dislodge. If not, she said, she'd tweeze it out. Well, I remembered crying when that first sing had been tweezed out, so I swam and swam and nearly killed myself swimming for the rest of the day, pumping my hand through the water so hard my arm cramped. Lol! And the stinger came out! Yay! So ... stories, guys? Caitlin
stung twice, both by wasps, I can't remember what my mom used to get the stinger out. I know the one time they used mud and I can't remember the reason for that.
Mud? Wow. That's an interesting one! Maybe you were somewhere weren't tweezers weren't available, lucky for you! Lol! Evil tweezers! I hate them, they are so evil! For splinters, stings, all that icky horrid stuff lol! Caitlin
yeah I remember my mom spraying the ground with the hose, it got a puddle of mud and they spread it on the area where the sting was. Then when the mud was dry they felt for the stinger, it was dislodged to the point where they were able to get it with the tweezers without pain. They said the mud trick is to help sooth the pain to some degree, and not to mention I think it helps bring the stinger out. But I never knew why use mud then tweezers. Again I was 7 when this happened sooooo long long time ago lol.
I've been stung. Once on the hand by a wosp because I was in its taritory. I have also been stung on the foot by bees when I was little and that was my fault because I was not waring shoes. I have never had the stingers stuck in me though.
Troy
Hmmm I'll remember that mud thing. I would never want anyone to have to go through the Tweezer Torture. Lol. And ouch, Troy, on the foot? Yipes! Caitlin
LOL lucky Troy didn't get the stingers lodged in him. The only time I was allowed to go barefoot was in the pavillian, or on the pool's sidewalk. If I was going outside the pool's gate I wore flip flops to get to and from the pavillian and the house.
Not to mention the reason is so many flowers near and around the pool's fence and the pavillian and it never failed someone got stung in the foot if they weren't wearing shoes or flops.

I HATE GETTING STUNG BY BEES AND ANYTHING THAT STINGS! On a woodland hike several years ago, when I was a young teen I was truly enjoying the day. The morning hike was breath taking. Warm and not too hot a day. Perfect. On the way back and yet still about one-half mile from home I placed my foot into a bees hive that was on the ground!!! I had a swarm of bees all over me in seconds and I was SCARED to say the least. I ran like anything on the motorbike trail I was walking. Probably should not have done that only I didn't know any better. By the time I got home I was stuttering so bad from all the freight! I swell if I get stung so I didn't know what was to happen to me. Mom finally figured out what happened and checked me out. Thankfully! NO Stings!!!
Oh my god Connie that's really freaky. Ands yeah I never go barefoot. I'm too scared to for that reason and do stepo n glass or whatever. Caitlin
I never go barefoot if I can help it, but I got stung drinking a glass of orange juice when I was at school once. I had finished my toast at Breakfast before i went to school, grabbed my glass of juice off the table and drained it. Seconds later, I felt this stinging in my mouth. Blimey! That's the first time I'd been stung and I nearly swallowed a live wasp with a glass of juice. I quickly spat it back in the more-ore-less empty glass, turned the glass over and crushed the vile insect. My grandmother really has to watch out for buzzy things though. She's allergic to insect stings and could go in to annaphylactic shock if she's stung.
never been stung in my life Can anyone tell me what it feels like?
Fucking painful, lollol. Sort of like a zillion tiny pins rammed in the end of your finger or wherever you got stung. Not nice.
Damn. I've seen these shows on Animal Planet, and jellyfish stings sound like the most painful thing to experience. Actually, the fire and bullet aunts sound worse than that.
Mud helps reduce the swelling and as it dries when you peel it off it will pull out the stinger. A good home remedy to reduce the stinging is to make a vinegar and baking soda paste, rub it on thickly let it dry, it pulls out some of the venom and soothes the pain
Hi, all. Tonja is right about the vinegar and baking soda. It really does work. I've used it before.
I've been stung by bees several times, once on the back of the leg, right behind my knee, once on the palm of my hand, and once in the center of my right cheek when a bee got caught in my long hair. Only taken it from a wasp once, in the front of my arm, where my elbow is. Gryffindor Angel, a sting feels like....First like you've been stabbed with a needle, but then instead of the needle just sitting there inside you, it burns like all hell. And then, even after you get the stinger out, the site itches like crazy as it heals. I am positively phobic of bees, wasps, and such flying things that can sting. I mean, how are we to know we're in their territory? Oh well, somehow we coexist.
Damn, now I know I don't want to get stung. Does anyone know if there is a test doctors can perform to see if one is alergic to bee venom?
Yes they can Gryff it is a routine allergen test
Well, I just spoke to my dad about it, and he said since noone in our family has the alergy, it's not that big of a concern. I'd rather get it done, just so I know.
